Canon HV30 Review

Canon HV30 Information at PhotoOver.com

Vis-a-vis the video cameras Full HD which multiply the other supports of recording, Canon HV30 shows that the cassette did not say its last mot. It profits from an high-quality of image, supported by a autofocus and a stabilizer effective. General ergonomics is succeeded. Some points the such external micro catch approach it without fault.

Can a video camera with cassettes FD, even labellized high-definition like Canon HV30, still draw the attention? Especially at the moment when other apparatuses record on more compact supports, such chart SD, which reach 16 Go, even 32 Go of capacity… The old mechanical stand keeps still certain advantages: low costs with the unit (less than 3 € for approximately 13 Go of storage) or the easier video assembly (though slower because of the capture).

But, in addition to the properties of its support of recording, the Canon HV30 is convincing for other reasons. Its catch in hand is good, its comfortable general ergonomics. The various orders are well located. A joystick allows navigation in the menus and also to adjust, for example, easily the sound level of entry during the recording.

During our test, the Canon HV30 showed the swiftness and the precision of sound autofocus. Without hesitation and quickly, it generally passed from the great angle to the close-up, and vice versa. And its optical stabilizer appeared of a very great effectiveness, even the pushed thoroughly zoom.

Its display screen of 2,7 ‘ inches (6,9 cm) impresses too. It is well contrasted and luminous. The images, recorded in HDV with the format 1080i (1920×1080 pixels), were dazzling on a screen Full HD of 42 inches.

The photographs are recorded with a maximum definition of 2048×1536 pixels. For 3 mégapixels, the result obtained is satisfactory. However, a flat remains: the ergonomics of the apparatus. It is not surprising, a video camera is really not adapted to photography. Another small negative point: the recording is done on chart Mini SD. There was not enough place for the SD on an apparatus of this size?

In connection with size, that of the sight is riquiqui. An eyepiece would be said! It is true that the sight tends to disappear on the video cameras general public, but nevertheless! For this video camera directed informed amateur (compared with the other apparatuses), we regret also the absence of position great angle on the zoom x10, which starts to 43,6 mm (equivalent 35 mm)

Last fault: the noise produced by internal mechanics, in particular that of the zoom, is audible with the recording. Fortunately, the sound can be improved by connecting an external microphone. Because a catch jack is envisaged for this purpose. And great luxury for a video camera general public today, one can connect a helmet on one second catch ! Side of the video connector industry, we appreciated the presence of a catch HDMI of standard size. Details which have their importance. For the informed amateur. Who will have certainly only to wish long life with cassette FD.
